Without truth, righteousness, love, and peace all the education, the value of the education is a zero. Bereft of truth, righteousness, love, and peace all the exalted positions we occupy is just a zero. Without truth, peace, righteousness, and love all the acts of charity and good actions is just a zero. Without the ???, the four pillars of this ancient mansion, more than this, what am I to convey to you, this august assembly of pious and noble devotees?

Embodiments of love!

Human life has with it mysterious divinity. So, as to be respected, so as to be known by others, so as to earn a name and fame in society, so as to be appreciated by a group of ten at least - one has to do the sacred acts, or one can be famous by being notorious by taking to unsacred acts. The one who does the sacred activity will earn the name and fame, respect and esteem. The one who does unsacred activities he may have certain attractions. For both these aspects the basis is Bharatha texts.

What is not present in the sacred text Bharatha is not present anywhere else. Pandavas earned name and repute by being righteous, doing good deeds, sacred acts and noble deeds. On the contrary there are Kauravas who have taken to all wicked acts, faithlessness, they are notorious and they did all that is injustice. (Swami: Pleasure is an interval between two pains). Pleasure, pleasure is an interval between two pains.

Truly speaking without Kauravas the Pandavas' glory and greatness would not have been known. Because of Kauravas we have all wicked thoughts, the wicked actions, maneuvering, manipulating. Because of them the greatness of Pandavas, that stand for truth, righteousness, peace, and love, is known to the world. When there is no darkness, light has no value. When there is no pain, pleasure has no value. Therefore, pain and pleasure, and also light and darkness follow each other appropriate and interrelated.

The human quality is absent in the modern man. However, there are many great people. Their greatness, their radiance and the brilliance is not spread in the world today. Today in the world we find the effects of wicked people, wicked actions, wicked thoughts more and more. What is the reason behind this? There are people with sacred hearts that stand for ideals in full faith of God, but whatever may be, there must have been some defects or other among these people, for that reason their glory and greatness is not blossoming, is not spread, is not expressed in the world today.

Here is matchbox. When the matchbox is made wet by keeping it in water, even if you rub the matchstick against the box, you don't get the fire. Yet, there is fire in it. As it is made wet with the touch of water, we are not able to get the fire. Wet matchstick, how many times you may strike it against the matchbox, you can never get the fire. Similarly, in every man there is the fire of wisdom, there is the fire of divinity and the fire of godly awareness. Just to make this flame ever burn, many take to spiritual practices.

In spite of all penance, meditation, and bhajans, that flame within is not expressing outside. What is the reason? We meditate. We do bhajans. We do penance. We undertake yajna, yaga, rituals. We also go through sacred texts: Ramayana, Bharatha, Bhagavatha, Bhagavad Gita. We have full faith in the sacred texts. But, what is the reason for the divine power latent in him, that doesn't become patent? Here we should investigate. Man does all external, spiritual, ritual practices, but his mind is drenched in sensual pleasure. Keeping the mind on the worldly matter, having full faith in this ephemeral, transient, world, though you pray

the divinity, which is eternal truth, it is of no value.

He does spiritual practice. How does he do? He does practices like the matchstick that is made wet with touch of water and then striking it against the matchbox. If you really want to have the divine power to be patent, what you have to do is, you have to keep this, this the matchstick that is made wet in the sunshine of renunciation [vairagya]. When the matchstick is kept out in the brilliant sunshine of renunciation, then the fire will come out. Without renunciation all spiritual practices confer temporary satisfaction, not the bliss out of the eternal (Swami: Truth) truth.

(Swami: Na karmana, na prajaya, dhanena, tyagenaike amritatvamanasuh)

.

In spite of all good deeds, you may have very good progeny, you may earn money, but if you don't have that spirit of sacrifice, renunciation, the mental peace and the brilliance of spiritual life and the bliss of divinity, man cannot reach.

We eat. The food that is eaten on the other hand must be sacrificed. If it is not sacrificed, our health will spoil, our health will spoil and the digestive system will get upset. We inhale air. The air inhaled must be exhaled on the other hand, then lungs would be healthy. Similarly, all the powers that we earn, we have to sacrifice on the other. If it is not done we give the scope for restlessness [asanthi]. There is no place for peace. What is the use with all these things? In Mahabharatha Karna is highly intelligent, the strength of intellect. The strength - Karna has got all powers, all strength: the strength of man power and the strength of excellence. But he doesn't carry with him the strength of the divine. The strength of the Lord, the strength of God is towards Pandavas.

With man power and also the power of the intelligence, without the support and the strength of the Lord, he becomes weak. What happened to the great Karna towards the end? Swami tells what is actually truth? In spite of all strength, if you don't have the strength of the Lord, all other faculties are merely weak. So, every man, every man must love, every man must make an attempt to know the value of human life. What happened to Kauravas who are full of, of position, power, and pelf, and wealth? They captured the whole of the kingdom. They are full of property, the wealth, and power. What kind of people are there in army? Greats warriors are there. In the army of Kauravas are present mighty warriors like Bhismacharya, Krupacharya, Dronacharya, Aswattahama and the great Karna. All Archaryas are there in the army.

What is the use of all these archaryas? When there is no strength of the Lord, who is really archarya of acharyas, what else will these ??? ? If you keep the main switch off, even if you put on the switches in the room, what is the use? That exactly had happened in Mahabharatha. In the first instance, to seek the help and the cooperation of Lord Krishna (Swami: Help!). And help of Krishna, Arjuna, Arjuna and Duryodhana both went. Krishna is an excellent actor. He has got that - therefore, Krishna is director. With all so many of the kingdoms in spite of all His accomplishments, He has not coronated Himself ??? He is really the kingmaker, but He was never the king. He stood as a kingmaker, therefore earned lot of respect. If He, if He were to be the king of all the kingdoms He has conquered, He wouldn't have been respected.

I have come down on Earth to be a kingmaker, not to rule the kingdom. Krishna understood clearly that both Duryodhana and Arjuna came seeking His help. He was watching those two coming one after the other. First Duryodhana came. He is full of ego, bad feelings, all maneuvering. All full of wrong acts and he has got misdirected attachments. Duryodhana is full of all these things. Krishna was lying. If Duryodhana is to sit near the feet of the Lord is does not earn him any respect. So, he sat on the chair near the head of Krishna, because of ego.

Arjuna came. He came in all humility. He sat on a chair near the feet of Lord Krishna. What is Krishna doing? Krishna is pretending as if He is sleeping. He has not slept. Who can wake Him up? If He is really sleeping, He easily will get up. ??? If He is not really sleeping He will get up immediately. He is not waking. He is not sleep. He is not sleeping, He is not awaking. It is pretension - in between. None can wake up such people.

Those people who are sleeping - forgetting the body consciousness - could ever anybody wake them up? It is impossible for anyone to wake up that person, who merely closes his eyes and pretending to be asleep. Why ??? Lord? "Enough is enough, Krishna. Enough of your leelas!" The moment Arjuna prayed like that Krishna got up.

Every man, whom does he watch the moment he wakes up? Naturally, naturally one would notice the one that sitting at the feet. No one will turn their head around and watch the person near the head. Naturally Krishna saw Arjuna first. Arjuna got up did namaskar. He started talking to him affectionately ???. Duryodhana was full of anger. It added up, plus, plus, plus. Krishna didn't look at him. He didn't converse with him, so he was more angry.

Why Krishna is doing like that? (Swami: Yad bhavam tad bhavathi) As is the feeling, so is the result. For foolishness, for foolish Duryodhana, the foolishness is witness. Krishna thought ,"Better not to see this man more angry." He turned and said, "Oh Duryodhana, when did you come?" He said, "Krishna, I came long back!" "Why did you come brother-in-law?" "Tomorrow there is going to be battle, there is going to be war between the children of brothers: Pandavas and Kauravas. I have come here seeking your help." "Oh, My help! Good!" "Arjuna, why did you come?" I have come seeking Your help. Arjuna didn't say so. Whereas Arjuna said, "Krishna, I came for Your grace!"

Duryodhana came for worldly strength and help, whereas Arjuna came there for the grace of Krishna. But Krishna made it into two parts. My army and all My equipment will be on one side. I am just the one, the other side. You can choose whatever you want of the two. Duryodhana has got lot of physical, worldly desires. He wants all kind of worldly strength. "Krishna, give me Your army." Krishna said, "Yes, I will give you." Then Arjuna asked - when Krishna asked Arjuna, "Brother-in-law, what do you want?" Arjuna said, "It is enough if You are there. I don't want anything else." Then Krishna patted on the back of Arjuna and started telling. "Arjuna, all My army and weaponry are like compartments of a train. So, Duryodhana is taking along with him all the compartments. For this train I am the engine. So, you take this engine." Without engine how do compartments move? All the strength in this world are equal to compartments. It is only God, the engine, that should drive it.

Arjuna sought that Krishna, all powerful. So, Arjuna did namaskar and sat close to the feet. Krishna started telling Arjuna what all that is going to happen in the future. "Get up Arjuna! The destiny is strong. Justice will be triumphant. The selfish will be ???. This is the law of all ages. Understand this. The father with hundred children, towards the end, will not be left with one. What a destiny, what a fate it is. Dhritharashtra will not be left with one son at least to offer the last rites ???. Leaving God and righteousness, expecting money and authority, they have full faith, in this worldly pleasures. (Swami: Reflection, reaction, resound) They are all reactions, reflections, and resounds. There in only one reality. That is God. You want God, therefore, you don't need to fear. With God you will accomplish everything. So, be courageous and you may go."

Mahabharatha, for the entire world, what wonderful truth it is propagating. If you speak it externally, outwardly, Mahabharatha is a war, the ???. It is a reflection of the inner conflict. (Swami: Reflection of inner being) Reflection of the inner being. Within there is constant fight between the good and the bad. In between the good and bad there is Krishna.

In this war between the two, Krishna will be charioteer towards the good. (Swami: Partha Sarathi) Krishna is Partha Sarathi. Who is Partha? The son of Earth. For all the sons of Earth, for all the sons of Earth it is Partha Sarathi that is the charioteer. That is God himself. He is in everyone. The self is present in all beings. All are the sparks of the divine. (Swami: Ekam sath viprah bhahuda vadanthi) The truth is one, referred to by scholars in different ways. In all beings He is installed. God is present in all beings.

The entire Universe is full of God. If we have such a divinity in our hearts, why should we struggle for outer, sensual pleasure? Of course worldly matters are needed. In daily life, all comforts, like food, raiment, and shelter are needed. But if you have faith in God, does He not look after you? The moment you get up from the bed until you go to sleep, without any limitation you waste your time. You waste your time also in the process, in the process of learning. You have forgotten God. You spend all the time in studying. What comfort you achieve?

Tell the truth oh man! What is it that you have achieved? Nothing whatsoever. You are wasting your time. Our actions are ???. You make your body too tired. Man has got a responsibility to sanctify the body, to sanctify the time, and to do his duty. Man should think of the responsibility. Then we will have that natural right. But unfortunately today we have kept aside the responsibility. We are fighting for the rights. No! Rights and responsibilities are like pair of wings. Like two wheels. But the most important that man should have is responsibility. He must discharge his duties. Discharging duties is yoga.

Forgetting the duty, if he expects the reward, how do you expect it? Unless he does some work, he cannot expect anything in return. However, man does some work. How does he do? He does it in anticipation of something in return. A small example.

The son and the children are there in the family. The wife and other relatives are there. Right from dawn to dusk they attend to household duties. But by the evening time, the owner - the family members will not ask the master of the family for wages. No one will ask wages. Whether family do their duties or not it is the responsibility of the master to take care of them. Then there is a servant who works from dawn to dusk. By the evening time he will ask for his wage. The one who works for wage, the one who works for daily wage is servant. The one who works for the responsibility is a master. Are you going to become master or servant?

The servants think of all the things outside. The servant will think, will watch those things that are thrown out by the master. But master will notice all valuables that are locked in the ??? almador ???. Only master can see those valuables. Master has authority over the valuables. Servant has no authority.

Similarly, today we are all leading a life of a servant. It is only the one self that is present in all beings. All should be masters. This nature of the self is same in everyone. So, everyone should take himself to be a master. When we reach that position, we can real understand the true nature of the self. We need not search for that. We think that we are in search of divinity. Swami says, "Search is a, a wrong word." Where do you search your self? Where? Do you search your own self outside? Are you sensible or not? You search your own self outside, when you are foolish, when you are mad. When you are sensible you don't search your own self.

Similarly, God is in you - (Swami: In you, with you, above you, below you, around you) God is in you, with you, below you, above you, around you. Where do you search for that? So, veda says, "God is present in you, outside, and all over." You don't need to search for Him. If you develop that love, He himself will come to you. Looking at this shining lamp, all other insects come towards that. They are not worried whether they are going to be burnt because of the lamp. Seeing that light all insects gather. As the flower blossoms, does any flower invite the bees? No! Bees come there and receive the honey from the flowers. The flower and the bee know well. The heart [hridaya] is the flower. Heart is a flower. It is flower, heart. The hearth as flower has got the nectar, the divinity.

The devotee should enter into this flower and drink the nectar. So, Gopikas, they were expecting this oneness. "Krishna, Krishna if You are there as a flower, I will be a bee going around You. When You grow as a gigantic tree, I will be a creeper climbing around You. In Your infinite ocean, I will be a river and merge into You. When You are that Meru mountain, Krishna, Krishna when You are the Meru mountain, I will be a fall, falling very close to You. When You are that infinite sky, I will be a shining like a small star." Gopikas were aspiring for that unity with God.

If You are born as a flower, see that we are born as a bee. If You are born as a tree, let me be a creeper climbing around You. I should draw that inspiration. (Swami: Unity in diversity) That is unity in diversity. This kind of unity was anticipated. But today, (Swami: You are you, and I am I), today devotees say, "You are you and I am I." When do they become one. No! (Swami: You and I are we) It should be, "You and I are we." (Swami: Not one) Not one. (Swami: We and we are one) We and we are one. Here, there, wherever you see, only one that exists. This is true practice [sadhana].

Godavari river, Krishna river, Cauveri river, Yamuna river, Saraswathi river - all rivers flow with different names and forms. Ultimately, ultimately they merge in the ocean. Having merged in ocean, where is Godavari? Where is Cauveri water? Where is Ganges water? Where is Saraswathi water? Everything becomes ocean water. (Swami: Brahmavid brahmiva bhavathi) The knower of Brahman becomes Brahman. Everything becomes one. It has the taste of an ocean. It will have the form of the ocean, name of the ocean. The names and forms are sacrificed in respect of rivers. First, we have to sacrifice our name and form [nama, rupa]. We should merge in that divine form and name. That is true inquiry [vicharana].

However, we have to discharge our duties. Whatever we do, I am doing for God's sake. Go to office, do business, do your duty, do many actions. No need to stop. Whatever you do, take it as Lord's action. (Swami: Work will be transformed into worship) Swami says, "Then work will be transformed into worship." Swami never said, "Leave your work, and get to the forest, holding you nose." What is it you get there in the forest? It is not forest (Swami: For-rest) That is not forest, it is for-rest. For that you should go.

When do you need rest? When you burst you need rest. When do you burst? When the dust joins, it bursts. When do you find the dust? When it is rusted, it gets dusted. Thus, the divinity shining all the time in every human being. Therefore, think of the Lord all the time. Offer all your actions to please Him, to the lotus feet, and then have the feeling that God is everywhere in you.

Where, wherefrom you get the sound? The sound - when you listen to the sound from Delhi. You can also listen to the radio in Kodaikanal by adjusting the ???. The song from Delhi, is listened here in Kodaikanal radio???. That is electric waves. That is sound. That is God. (Swami: Sabdhabramamayi) God is called Sabdhabrahmamayi. (Swami: Charaacharamayi) The one that moves. (Swami: Jyothirmayi) The Light. (Swami: Vaakmayi) The Word. (Swami: Nithyanandamayi) eternal bliss. (Swami: Parathparamayi) supreme. (Swami: Mayamayi) Illusion. (Swami: Srimayi) With all wealth. God has all these eight, Aiswaryas. All these eight faculties are present everywhere. That is divine Atma. With that full faith, we should take to practice. We should think of that only. So, wholehearted out of love, thinking of the Lord, discharge your duties. God will take care of all your responsibilities.

Chitthi Babu said, "You are everywhere. You make me speak. You make me listen. You make me ???. You make me think. Everything You." But, but he said, "The good and bad go to You, not to me. Bad also goes to You. Even good also goes." When anyone comes to that position, He will take care of everything. But today that sincerity and devotion are not to be found. If anything is a success he will credit himself for the success. A failure, God maketh me a failure. No! The success and the failure, the good and bad are ??? To reach that state of equanimity sense control is needed. The sense control is possible only by love. Think of the Lord with love.
