At the time of birth he doesn't bring any necklace round his neck from mother's womb. Good words are not noticed at the time of birth. There is no gold chain around the neck at the time of birth. No precious shining gems either. There are no precious stones like emeralds and so on. No chain of diamonds. There is no chain of costly, most valuable stones. Yes, truly there is one chain around your neck, at the time of your birth: consequences of past lives' actions [karma] gathering together. Without cutting off good or bad, Brahma the creator, sends you with this heavy chain of good and bad. It is a chain of all consequences of our actions of the previous lives: the necklace that we have.
Embodiments of divine atma!
Whatever man experiences in the daily life, good and bad, are the consequences of his good and bad actions done earlier. We may do an action [karma]. You may not see that. The consequence may not be immediate. There is a lot of change in between the action and its consequence. There is no separation between action and the consequence. Along with this action, the consequence also follows.
When we are hungry we eat food. However, to satisfy hunger we eat. Between these two, the action of eating and the consequence of satisfaction after eating, there is a change in between. We eat food with the mouth, take it to stomach, get it digested. For this two hours are required. Then only the digested food will give the strength and the satisfaction to the body. Therefore, for all actions we do it takes time to face the consequence.
The moment you sow a seed, it will not grow into a plant. The seed is action, the plant is the consequence. It takes time for germination. The entire tree is within a seed. Man can see the seed, but not the entire tree thereafter. Whole future rests on the present. We say future. We wait for the future, we need not, because it lies in the present. Basing on the actions we do, we have the consequence in future. So, we should make the present sacred, fruitful and purposeful.
Student appears and writes the examination in the examination hall, but he waits for a month or two for the results. He need not wait for two months for his result. As he writes - there lies the result. The way, how he has written, the performance will tell on the result. Similarly, man doing good actions will never face bad anywhere. Doing all wrong actions, he cannot aspire to have good results. Sowing the seed of a neem seed, can you have a mango fruit? As you sow, so you reap.
Every human being must be prepared to undertake sacred actions and be ready to receive good results. The inert objects, when they are not received in time, they don't give you positive results. The fruit that is eaten, taken to the stomach and digested, it will take and give so many results later. The food that will be digested very soon gives you, promises you, so many consequences. Why not man be prepared for such good rewards out of this long life?
Here is flour mill. If you put into the flour mill the rice you get the rice flour. If you put in there the wheat in the flour mill you get wheat flour. As is the material you put in, so is the flour you get it. Human body is a flour mill. If you put in the fruit there on the top, you get the excreta at the bottom. The body is much worse, it is worst, when compared to the inert machine. But if the man eats the little pickle in the morning, it will be digested by the evening. But the same pickle, when you keep it in a jar, it will be there fine for one year. So, body is much worse then the jar.
In this unsacred body [deha], sacred gems are present. Body is a valueless iron safe. In this iron safe, as the jewellery is put in. In this body there is present God in the form of atma, self. But iron safe is not valuable. But the jewellery put into iron safe are highly valuable. So, body is a valueless iron safe. In this valueless iron safe, the body, God has kept, has hidden in secrecy, valuables. You purchased the iron safe for the valuables, jewellery. If you don't have valuable jewellery, you don't need the iron safe. Because of valuable virtues in us, we have to take care of this valueless body. What is the value of this body? In the stomach is excreta. All over bones. If we inquire clearly, it is a dirty skin. Minute to minute it emits foul smell, but not the scent and aroma.
Such valueless body, valuable atma is present. It is for the atma, the self, we have to protect the body. Body is the temple (Swami: Temple of God). Body is the Temple of God. We get thrilled looking at the temple, but we are not making an attempt to see God in the temple. One can build the temple beautifully with the marble stones. He can also increase the temple. When there is no idol inside the temple, who will go to the temple. So, temple is not important. It is the atma, the idol inside, that is important. Without the self no one will keep it in the house for a moment. It is a dead body. How far is the body the temple? So long the God, the soul, is present in the body. It is called sivam, sivam, so long God is there. In spite of many of the years that pass on, the body will never get spoiled. But the God, the self, if He leaves, in a minute the same body becomes savam, the dead body. One is sivam, awareness, life - other is savam, dead body.
So long there is life in the body it is sivam, when the life is gone it is savam. So long there is life it is sivam. It will not, not get spoiled. It may be alive for a 80, 90 years. The moment sivam, life, is gone in an hours' time it gets decayed. No one will keep the body, though it is build by him. Wife who spent all the time, 24 hours in his company enjoying, will be afraid seeing the dead body. Why is she afraid of that? There is no life, sivam. So long there is the life of sivam he is protected. She was very happy about it. When the life is gone the wife doesn't accept to see it . What is this relationship? Who are the true relations? It takes time to recognize this.
Twenty years - a son - a twenty years old son loves the mother, taking the body, calling , "Mother, mother!" So much dear to him. After some time she lost the body. The twenty year aged son in front of the body felt very sad. "Mother, I relied on you for such a long time. You only protected me, you protected me. You have fostered me. Who is there to take care of me now? Mother, you left me." He started wailing.
Who is the one that left? Truly if the body is the mother, the body is there. Who is he saying, that is missing? What is it, that is lost ? It is only the jiva, the individual. The jiva, the individual soul, is gone. Because of the soul, God, divinity is present in that, you love mother. The moment the soul, individual self, is lost, without any compassion he burns the body of, the dead body of the mother. Who is the true mother? "Oh mother, why you left me?" Who is the one that left? It is only the Siva.
When there is no Siva, Lord, nobody will respect this body. Who is the true mother? That is God! God is mother. God is father. Mother is God. More than mother, God is nearer. More than the father, God is closer. To forget such God, certainly you will be committing a sin. Sai's word is all truth. Mother may be close to the body, but God is in the body, within the body. So, closer than the mother, we should never forget such a God. God is responsible for the whole creation. God is an ideal for our life. God is our very breath, inhalation and exhalation. We should always chant, we should always think, we should always follow that divinity.
Body is just an instrument, but we should make use of this instrument as well. When the instrument is perfect, you can also do work on that. If you want to dig a pit the instrument, crowbar, you carry should also be pointed. If the crowbar is not sharp, in spite of all the strength that you have on hand, you can never dig the pit. Your self effort, the power of the instrument, when the two powers join, the expected pit can well be dug. So, self effort of the human being and God's power, when both meet, man can certainly achieve.
The human society is bound by action. Man is bound by action. Man lives in action. He certainly achieves through action. Therefore, your accomplishment lies in your skills in doing your actions. All actions can be accomplished with the divine power. Actions that man does, he will have the equal, appropriate consequences. You cannot escape the consequences. Either today or tomorrow, time may pass on, any day the consequence will follow you. So, we should do good actions, we should also develop, we should join the good company, then only we will have good rewards in future. As you sow, so you reap. As is the plant, so is the fruit (Swami: Start early, drive slowly, reach safely).So, Swami says, "Start early, drive slowly, reach safely."
In your life span, at this age, you should do good actions. What are good actions? All actions that please God must be done. When we do actions that please God, you will also have the reward that will please you later. When you don't do actions, you will never have pleasing reward later. So, all actions to please God. You offer all your actions to God, then your heart will be sacred. With the sacred heart you can lead a peaceful life. To have peaceful life, you need a strong determination, vow (Swami: P, p, p). This strong vow, determination is three p’s. The first p: purity. The second p: patience. Third p: perseverance. Purity, patience, and perseverance. We should experience in this life, all the three, then the whole life shines sacred.
So, embodiments of divine love! Every activity that we do, it should be sacred. If it is unsacred, it gives unsacred results. Don't be haste. With peace inquire. Peacefully, coolly do all actions. Out of hurry today, we want the reward early. So, don't be in haste, it is not good (Swami: Haste makes waste). Haste makes waste (Swami: Waste makes worry). Waste makes worry (Swami: So, do not be in a hurry). So, do not be in a hurry. Control this haste. About the activity, there is to be done, inquire is it good and bad? You can do, you can do it coolly, then you will have the reward. If you in haste it will be poison.
You should never be in haste. If you are hasty even the amritha becomes a poison. With peaceful feeling step into action. Enquire pros and cons, good and bad (Swami: Is it good or bad? Is it right or wrong?). Exercise discrimination as you take to an action, whether it is good or bad, right or wrong.
All actions done with the divine feeling will be sacred, but man today, he is not thinking of the divinity. For the mean, low result, he is leading a mean life. He is ruining himself. So, with all peace, divine feeling, when we do actions, then life will be full of pleasure, happiness and peace. So, every activity is valuable. Every action is sacred. But we have to enquire clearly before we step into activity. For everything we should take God's name. It is Lord's name, that will remove all the dirt and make everything sacred.
