Embodiments of Love!

In the modern world the life of human being is very peculiar. Knowing fully well what is good, what is bad, what is noble, what is mean, yet he is not able to tread along the right path. He knows what is good but he doesn't follow that way. He knows what is bad, but he is not able to get away from that. What’s the reason for this? It is only the human weakness that is responsible. He wants all the merits of good acts, but he is not prepared to face the consequences of evil acts. But he indulges himself in evil acts only.

Therefore, some power has gone into the human heart and makes him go along the wrong way. These are two: one is anger [krodha] another one is desire [kama]. Desire will drive man towards animality. It will convert human quality, animal quality. However highly educated he might be - a scientist, a man of authority and position, he could not control his desires. When we have control on our desires we can lead a true human life. Excessive desire will make him mad.

In Ramayana the character Ravana, he is highly educated, very strong, highly courageous. What is the reason behind the ruin of Ravana though highly educated, though powerful, and courageous? Ravana ruined himself because he could not investigate, he could not inquire into his desires and find out what is good and bad.

Not only control of the desires, we should have control over senses. We have eyes. As we are gifted with eyes, we should not make use of it in every way we like. (Swami: See no evil - see what is good) See no evil - see what is good. As we have ears, we should not give patience listening to what all that is said by others. (Swami: Hear no evil - hear what is good). Hear no evil - hear what is good. As you have the tongue you cannot talk as you like. You should never speak that way, as to hurt anybody. You should never injure heart of anybody. (Swami: Talk no evil - talk what is good). Talk no evil - talk what is good.

We have heart [hridaya]. It moves about as per its will. There is a limit for the wind velocity, but for the speed of the heart has no limit. It broods over all unnecessary things. (Swami: Think no evil - think what is good) Think no evil - think what is good. Here is a hand. With this hand you should not do every act. The hand is not responsible. Desire is the cause. So, (Swami: Do no evil - do what is good) do no evil - do what is good.

We should see that good enter into our senses. We should give no scope to evil things. For all this it is the bad company [dussanga] that is responsible. Swami said yesterday, (Swami: Run away from bad company) Run away from bad company. First get away from the bad company. The reason is, because of the defects in the bad company your human life goes along the wrong path, along the wicked way.

There is dust on earth. If it has friendship with the air, it will go up to the sky. To go up it has no wings. The same dust in association with water will go down. To go down it has no legs either. To go up, no wings. To go down, no legs. But one way it goes up, the other way down. What’s the reason? (Swami: Friendship) It is only friendship. As it has friendship with the wind, it goes up. As it has friendship with water, it will go down. It has got the nature to fly high. The water has go the nature to go down. Even if you pour water on the mountain top it will go down. Basing on the nature, because of association man gets good or bad. So, run away from bad company.

It is not enough if you are away from bad company. Supposing we are diabetic patients. It is not enough if we take medicine, we should also control our diet. Along with medicine control over the diet will give you relief, cure. So, it is not enough if you leave the bad company. Join, have friendship with good people. Who are good? Who are bad? When we inquire this, human life has limitations. Society has certain regulations. Basing on the rules of society, who is good? The one with three qualities is good. What are those qualities? (Swami: Love of God) 1) Love of God. (Swami: Fear of sin) 2) Fear of sin. (Swami: Morality in society). 3) Morality in society. Morality in society, fear of sin, love of God, these three will take man to noble heights.

When there is fear of sin, he will have love of God. When he has love for God, then he can develop morality in society. The one with these three qualities is real human being. These are the three which are related to the heart [hridaya], the word, and hand. ( Swami: Three H, V). This is the real three HV. (Swami: Not, EHV) Not VHV. (Swami: EHV) It is not EHV. (Swami: Education) Education (Swami: In human values) in human value, we say. (Swami: Three H) No, no three H.

(Swami: One H, Heart) The first H, Heart. (Swami: Second H, second H, head). Second H, head. (Swami: Third H, hand) Third H, hand. (Swami: Heart, head, hand) Three H, now: Heart, head, hand. We should have control over these three. Then only human quality will improve in him.

We have lost the human value today. What is the reason for this degeneration? Only desire and anger. Ravana had not made proper use of his looks. He looked at Sita in a bad way. Whomsoever you look, you have good things in the mind. Your, your eyes are sacred. The eye is equal to sacred text. Your vision [drishti] is equal to creation. It is just the vision, that can put down the world to ashes. It is only the vision that can protect the Universe. So, make proper use of the vision. Because of bad looks, bad thoughts develop in him.

Because of bad looks and bad thoughts Ravana ruined. Hanuman recognized what Ravana did is a wrong thing. He thought that such a wicked man should be, should not be left all alone. In the court of Ravana, Hanuman started accusing Ravana. "You are a man character. You are rich, you are strong, educated, but should you have that quality? You don't have that looks appropriate to you quality. From worldly point of view you are in high position, but your senses have gone in a low way. So, you cannot escape punishment."

When he accused Ravana, Ravana was angry. He has set the tail of Hanuman on fire. Hanuman thought it also for his good. With the fire of his tail he burnt the whole Lanka. What is the reason? Because of his anger for Ravana. Because of the fire the whole Lanka was full of flames. The flames were spreading everywhere. The entire Lanka was burnt. Hanuman sat on sinshupa tree. He thought that they deserved good punishment. Then only his anger subsided.

After the anger subsided, he thought, "In the same Lanka my mother Sita is there. I did not exercise my discrimination. I have burnt down Lanka. What is going to happen to my mother Sita? I have come here thinking of welfare of Sita. I have come here to know the sacredness of Sita. The purpose for which I am sent here - I have completely spoiled the cause. The reason is anger. The one with anger will never be successful in anything. He will also be blamed. He will do all wicked things. He will also asked to get out. He will also lose his property. He will lose all the respect. He will get himself separated from his people. Everything will be lost because of anger." That is what Hanuman thought.

It is only the desire of Ravana that has ruined him. He has taken the desire, which is not under control. He has taken wrong desire, that which is against his natural quality.

So, man should have desires - not excessive desires. You are thirsty. It is enough if you get tumbler full of water. In the forest you are thirsty, you desire tumbler full of water. You should not desire for cool drink. How do you get cool drink in a forest? That is excessive desire. So, every thought of man, there is scope for success. The bad will give you bad result, good will give good result.

The entire Universe is the embodiment of Vishnu, the Lord. The very form of God. The entire world is wish-fulfilling tree [kalpavriksha]. It will fulfill all your desires. It will fulfill whatever desires you have.

A passenger as he was on his way. He was going to the neighboring village. As it was summer it was very hot. He sat under the shade of a green tree. It was very cool and comfortable - a cool breeze. "So long I traveled in hot weather. Now it is very cool now, but I am thirsty. No water. If I really have water, I will be peaceful inwards and outwards. I will have comfort to the body and satisfaction to the mind." He was feeling sad as there was no water. From the tree fell down a tumbler of water. "How lucky I am. The moment I desired, I got water." He drank that water. He is physically exerted and he was also mentally fatigued. He wanted to rest. "How can I lie down on stones and thorns? How fine is it if there was to be bed." Immediately bed appeared. He, he, he lied down on the bed. "I don't have such a bed at home. If that bed is seen, if real things are watched, my wife will be very happy. How nice if she were to watch this bed." Immediately wife descended. He thought, "Where is my village? Where am I? My wife could come? How could she come from that far? Is it my wife or a devil?" She turned into a devil. He thought," That evil, that devil may swallow him." Ultimately, devil swallowed him.

Meaning: As is the thought - so is the result. When he desired water it came. Should he not be satisfied with that? Still he wanted bed. Should he not be satisfied? Because of excessive desires his thoughts only had put him to danger. So, we should have control over our desires.

In our heart there is anger [krodha] and desire [kama]. What, whatever good acts you want to do the desire is an obstacle. So, you are not able to do good. What all bad you think, what all you don't want to do, it, it is only desires that makes you do. In the world there are enemies. Who are enemies? The one who will harm you are enemies. The one who harms you is enemy. The one who hurt you are enemies. Those enemies are within us. Both anger and desire will pain you. The one that hurts you are the desire and anger.

Mental restlessness is because of anger and desire. So, when you put a ceiling to the desire, anger could be controlled. In human life there are desires. They should be there, it is no mistake. But they should be limited. If they are excessive you can never fulfill.

As is the vessel, so is the contained. There is plenty of water in Ganges. In ocean lot of water. You can collect the water depending on the measure of the vessel. You cannot collect the whole lot. If you want more, have bigger container. Develop divine Power. Without developing divine power, to satisfy worldly desires is contradictory to human life. Anger and desire are the qualities of animal. Therefore, we should keep off at a distance animal qualities. That is spirituality. What do you mean by spirituality? Not bhajans, not penance, not worship. No! We should get away from the animal qualities within us. These animal qualities are the very enemies to us. They are true enemies: anger and desire. We should put them under control. If we allow them to go a stray, you cannot escape from the danger. You cannot escape restlessness [asanthi]. You are bound to face troubles. As you have the mind you cannot think in any way

.

(Swami: Control, control, control) Everything needs a control. There should be limits. This in vedantic parlance, "There will be no welfare without discipline or control. (Swami: Limit) Limit." Where there is limits, it gives you safety. When it is limitless, it will give you disease.

Our temperature 98.4. (Swami: It is perfect normal) It is perfect normal temperature. If it is 99 fever starts. Because it is more. The blood pressure (Swami: 120 by 80, perfect normal) 120 by 80 perfect normal. If it is 90 heart disease commences. The eyeball, vision, can only visualize under a limit. If you see highlight intensity retina burns. Our life is within a limit. So, Swami says, "Human life is a limited company." Starting in a limited company, you will be fined, you will be taxed. If you go beyond the limit you will be punished, you will be taxed. You should never face such a punishment. You should never face any sort of punishment.

Escaping punishment, to reach divinity, you should proceed in a limited way. (Swami: Talking limit) Talking limit. (Swami: Seeing limit). Seeing limit. (Swami: Walking limit) Walking limit. (Swami: Thinking limit) Thinking limit. All are under limits. But today we are beyond all limits. Our desires are limitless. To reduce those desires in vedanta it is said: renunciation [vairagya]. Renunciation does not mean leaving your family and house getting into the forest. (Swami: Life is long journey) Renunciation meant life long journey. (Swami: Less luggage - more comfort makes travel a pleasure) Less luggage - more comfort makes travel a pleasure.

Our life is a long journey. If you carry too heavy luggage it would be troublesome. (Swami: Luggage is the desires) The luggage is desires. Gradually reduce your desires. When you reduce worldly desires, spiritual desires can increase. But man today he aspires for spirituality, but his growing worldly desires. He develops too much attachment. It is not attachment that is important. Detachment is the royal path in spirituality. How? You have family, children, and house. (Swami: Do your duty. Duty is God. Work is worship) Do your duty. Duty is God. Work is worship. But you should not have too much of attachment. You should educate them, you should give them food, you should take care of them, but throughout life you should not have such an attachment. A small example.

There are birds. The mother bird will take care of the young ones feeding them. How long? Until they develop wings. The moment young ones develop wings, the mother bird will drive them out to lead their own lives. Man drives them out. But man is not like that. Until death he is attached. Is that spirituality? Certainly not! Gradually you should reduce attachment. If you have attachment towards your children till death, when do you release yourself? You do what all you are supposed to. You have done, then you should have your attachment towards the divine. It is not worldly attachment. Worldly attachment needed. It should be to the extent. So, when all are under limits, man will have supreme bliss [paramananda]. Because of attachment man is facing lot of restlessness [asanthi].

Leaving your parents, everybody - you have come from that far off places. You left your house. You left your relations. Why should you develop new attachments here? (Swami: Hallo, hallo. How are you? How are you? Goodbye) If you want to respect them say, "Hallo, hallo. Goodbye." But you are developing new relationships. Because of this luggage is becoming heavy. A small example.

When you leave the cotton, it will go up. When you leave the paper in the wind it will go up. What is the reason behind the cotton, the paper to go up? As they are light in weight they go up. So, if man is light he will go up. But today man he is not light. Now he is heavy. From the body point of view heavy. Desires heavy. So, he ruins himself. How do you expect him attain liberation? He says many, he doesn't do one. We should be light. We should reduce the weight. Then we can fly to noble heights.

You should be more light so that you can reach heights. If you have more of attachment you are sure to ruin yourself. If you have friendship, you should not have intimate relations. The one with attachment is no devotee. In order to cut down attachment they used to go to the forest in earlier times. But you should do your duty. In the house there is wife and children. You take care of them. But don't think of outside things. If help is solicited, do help! But don't imprint in your heart. You are ageing. No sacrifice [thyaga] to you. Man has no sacrifice. Because of the absence of sacrifice he is developing disease. He is developing a disease. Because he wants prosperity, the disease is increasing. As sacrifice increases the yoga would be on more. Sacrifice is yoga. The bhoga, comfort, is disease, roga. It should be limited. Everything is limited. So, it is good if you reduce your desires.

In spite of reading texts, in spite of listening to vedanta - the one who doesn't practice, he just makes his brain a book. He is a fool, who is ignorant totally. (Swami: Fool, fool, fool) He is a fool, fool, fool, number one. What is the reason? In a library there is a very big room. (Swami: Big building) Big building. There are lakhs [lakh = 100,000] of books, but each book explains one thing. If he asks, questions the library room, it doesn't respond. There is plenty of books in the library room, but room doesn't give reply to one's questions. So, we are collecting all worldly matter in a room, which is our head. We make our head a library room. All are there within. There is no reply at least for one. Reason? Because you don't practice.

So, we should never make our head a library room. Enter into the practical field. This is true spirituality. In spite of going to elderly people, in spite of listening vedanta, if you don't practice, all will be put to vain. So, you have come from far off places. How nice will it be for a quiet and peace. Because of unnecessary connections mind will be restless. So, sit in solitude and think of the Lord. (Swami: Ekam sath viprah bahuda vadanthi) This in vedanta (it) is said, "The truth is one, scholars speak It in many ways." We should change our looks, we should consider the Universe as the very form of God. We should not take nature as nature.

When you look at the jewellery we think of the name and form. Here is a necklace, bangle, earring. We say so, but, but they are all out of one gold only. When you see the jewellery, you don't think of the matter. You don't think of gold. When you look at the gold, you don't consider jewellery. So, all jewellery are made out of gold. So, the entire matter and objects is the result of same divinity. All, everything is divinity. All acts - we should sacrifice, offer all our acts to satisfy Lord. You should never divide, that God is in separate place, you different. You should bring oneness. Then only divine feelings will start.

Gradually, (Swami: Less talking) less talk, (Swami: Less walking) less walk, (Swami: Less hearing) less hearing, (Swami: Less look) less look. Very essential. You should have limited looks. If you don't find anybody, you look through binoculars. Why? What is the harm if you don't see? You see that which has to be seen. Why should you see unnecessary things. That is not good. That is bondage. Not bondage, investment bonds, you are bound in senses and mind also. We shout vedanta, we don't practice at least one. We speech - we are heroes in speeches and zeroes in practice. So, we should be heroes in practice. Then only our life can be fulfilled.

The human life is sacred, it is noble, it is fragrant, one of character. Such a valuable human life, we are just in selling it out for coal. Human life is important. It is highly valuable. In this world nothing is more valuable than this. We think the diamond is valuable. Who attaches value to diamond? Only man! We say gold is valuable. Who attaches value to gold? Man! Bungalow has value. Who attaches value? Man! Land is valuable. Man attaches value? So, man is highest. (Swami: Men are more valuable than all the wealth of the world). Men are more valuable than all the wealth of the world. (Swami: Wealth is not important) So, wealth is not important. (Swami: Health is not important) Health is not important. But human value is more important.

We should develop human values. When there are no values, what is the fun of having everything else? Dhritharashtra had plenty. He has got progeny. He has got companions. But what is the use? Because of bad thoughts he was highly restless [asanthi] continuously. We may be rich. We may spread dunlop bed and dunlop sofas. We may air-condition us. When we sit there, body is cool, but mind is hot. What is the reason? There is no mental peace. When there is, when there is no mental peace, there is no use of air-conditioned room. Not a proper situation. Make your condition proper. Control you mind. Mind is very important. Mind, mind is responsible either for bondage or liberation.

Here is a door. You have put in a lock there. When you put the key, turn to the left, it opens. Turn to the right, it locks. (Swami: Same lock) Same lock. (Swami: Same key) Same key. (Swami: Turning difference). There is difference in turning. For locking and opening there is difference in turning. Your heart [hridaya] is lock. (Swami: Mind is key) Mind is the key. (Swami: Turn God side) Turn God side. (Swami: Detachment) Detachment. (Swami: Turn world side) Turn world side. (Swami: Attachment) Attachment. For attachment and detachment mind is responsible. So, direct your mind towards God.

Look at your mother. See God in your mother. See your son, see God there. See your husband, there God. Because he is husband, don't bend him. You see God in your husband also. You see God in everyone. Whomsoever you salute

, it goes to God ultimately. But you should not have excessive connections.

Swami is watching. They are ageing. They listen to Swami's discourses over years, but when once they go out they have attachment. Seeing such people only atheism is increasing. The reason is absence of devotion. They have no faith in these people, because what they say, they don't do. So, do what you say! Then only you will earn respect. So, with sacred love, with divine Love, spend your daily life and have the truth and bliss. You don't get it out of texts. It cannot be taught by others. (Swami: Self, self, self) It comes out of the Self. (Swami: Self-realization) That is self-realization. That self is God. (Swami: Self is God) Self is God. That is real bliss.

Get away from external vision. Have inner looks. What do you mean? (Swami: If this is right or wrong?) What I am doing is right or wrong? Question your, question yourself, "Is it right or wrong?" (Swami: Is it yes or no?) Is it yes or no? Then conscience will give clear reply. So, make your conscience go in the right way. As you do that chant the Lord's name.
